The Tattoo Legacy of the Phalanstery

This recent Tattoo show at Phalanstery Gallery integrates the historic and the contemporary artist of the Phalanstery who have used tattooing as an inspiration or whom have worked as tattoo artists. R.O. Tyler, Thom D’Vita, Nick Bubash and Dorothea Tyler (who did not have a single tattoo but gave her husband most of his) are all from the earlier generations of the Phalanstery. The show also includes contemporary artist Clayton Patterson who’s artwork has closely chronicled and paralleled the development of the tattoo arts in underground culture. John Wyatt is a photographer in the way of a documentarian of tattoo culture, having photographed prominent tattoo artist such as Thom D’Vita. Pipi Deer is a contemporary photographer using her own tattoos as the subject expressed in her autobiographical photos.
